Supabase gives you everything an app needs behind the scenes: a proper database, user sign-in, file uploads and a way for your app to talk to all of it. You get it in minutes instead of building it yourself.
It is the default backend for most AI app builders (Lovable, Bolt and friends) and works well from Claude Code, which can create tables, write queries and set up access rules for you through Supabase's official connection. Because it is built on Postgres, a standard database, you are never locked in.
Free projects pause after a week of inactivity, and once you go past the free tier, usage-based charges can be hard to predict. Still the easiest serious backend to start with.
