What is Vercel?
Vercel is where a lot of AI-built websites and apps go live. You connect a GitHub project, and every time the code changes Vercel builds it and puts the new version online within a minute or two. Each change also gets its own preview link, so you can check it or send it to a client before it replaces the live site. It makes Next.js, one of the most popular ways to build websites, and it also makes the v0 app builder.
It works well with Claude Code. There's an official Vercel MCP server (a connector that lets Claude use Vercel) and a Claude Code plugin, so Claude can deploy, read error logs and set up the project for you. Beyond hosting, it includes a firewall, image optimisation, simple visitor analytics, file storage and an AI Gateway that lets your app call many AI models through one account.
The free Hobby plan is only for personal, non-commercial projects, so a business site needs Pro at $20 a month per developer. Pro includes $20 of usage credit, then charges for extra traffic and computing, which can surprise you if a page suddenly gets busy. Set a spending limit when you sign up.
