What is it?

Cursor is a code editor, built on the same foundation as VS Code, with AI woven into every part of it. It finishes your lines as you type, answers questions about your project, and has an agent mode that can make changes across many files from a single instruction.

Compared with Claude Code, you spend more time looking at the code and less time trusting a terminal. That is a feature if you are learning, or if you want to check every change before it lands. It supports models from Anthropic, OpenAI and Google, so you are not locked to one provider.

Usage is metered by credits on the paid plans, and heavy agent use can run through them faster than the headline price suggests.

Who it's for

Developers and curious beginners who want AI help without giving up a visual editor.

Best for

  • Learning by seeing changes as they happen
  • Multi-file changes with agent mode
  • Switching between AI models
