This site is run by Sam Despo from Melbourne, Australia. This page explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it. The short version: you can browse without giving me your name or email, I use a few standard analytics tools to see how the site is used, and I never sell your information.

What you give me

Newsletter

If you sign up to the newsletter, I collect your first name and email address. They're stored with Kit, the email service I use to send it. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops the emails straight away.

Tool reviews

If you review a tool, I store your first name, the role you enter (if any), your star rating, headline and review. These are published on the tool's page, so only write what you're happy for others to see. I don't ask for your email.

To stop spam, the site turns your IP address into a one-way scrambled code and counts how many reviews come from it each day. Your IP address itself isn't saved, and the count is deleted after 24 hours.

What's collected automatically

When you visit, these tools collect information such as the pages you view, how you got here, your device, browser, approximate location and how you use each page:

  • Google Analytics shows which pages people read and where visitors come from. Google's privacy policy
  • Microsoft Clarity records clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, and builds heatmaps and session replays so I can find what's confusing or broken. It hides what you type into forms. Microsoft's privacy statement
  • Meta Pixel tells Meta which pages were visited, so I can measure and show ads on Facebook and Instagram to people who've been here. Meta's privacy policy
  • Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies. Vercel also hosts the site and keeps short-lived server logs. Vercel's privacy policy

Google, Microsoft and Meta use cookies or similar technology to do this, and each handles that information under its own policy.

Links to other websites

When you click through to a tool's website, that site may set its own cookies, and its privacy policy applies once you're there.

How to opt out

  • Block or clear cookies in your browser settings, or browse in a private window.
  • Install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on.
  • Change how Meta uses this data for ads in your ad preferences.
  • Many ad and tracker blockers stop all of these tools from loading. The site still works without them.

How your information is used and shared

I use it to send the newsletter you asked for, show reviews, keep spam out, and understand how the site is used so I can improve it. I don't sell it. It's only shared with the services named on this page, or if the law requires it.

Those services are based mostly in the United States, so your information may be stored and processed outside Australia.

Your choices and requests

You can ask to see, correct or delete the information I hold about you, such as your newsletter signup or a review you've left. Email hello@samdespo.com and I'll reply within 30 days. If you're not happy with how I've handled it, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Children

This site is for adults. It isn't aimed at children under 16, and I don't knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If what the site collects changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top. Questions about anything here go to hello@samdespo.com. You can also read how tools are rated.
