Project and task management with AI teammates that pick up and move work forward.

4.0our rating

Quick take

  • Clean, well-liked task and project tracking. Most teams find it easier to pick up than ClickUp or Smartsheet.
  • Free only for 2 people now. Starter is $10.99 a user a month billed yearly ($13.49 monthly); Advanced is $24.99 ($30.49).
  • AI Studio and AI Teammates are included on paid plans but capped per account. Heavy AI use is billed on top.
  • Timelines, dashboards, forms and automations need a paid plan.
  • Good for work tracking, not for long documents or wikis; pair it with Notion or Google Docs for those.

What is Asana?

Asana is a work management app for teams. You set up projects as lists, boards, timelines or calendars, assign tasks with due dates, and track progress on dashboards. Its AI sits on top of that: AI Studio lets you build no-code rules that use AI to triage requests, route work and fill in fields, and AI Teammates are agents you can assign tasks to, such as drafting a brief, checking a project for risks or writing a status update.

Pick Asana when several people or teams need to see who is doing what by when, especially across departments like marketing and operations. ClickUp packs in more features for less money but is busier to use; Notion is better if your work is mostly documents; Monday.com and Smartsheet are the other big names, with Smartsheet suiting spreadsheet-minded teams. Asana is the cleanest of the group for task tracking.

The catch: the free plan is now limited to 2 people and leaves out timelines, dashboards and automations, so most teams pay. AI usage is capped by credits and requests per account, and heavier AI use costs extra on top of seat prices, which users on Asana's own forum call expensive.
