Raycast replaces Spotlight on the Mac (and now runs on Windows). Press one shortcut and you can open apps, search files, do maths, manage windows, paste from clipboard history or run thousands of community extensions.
The Pro plan adds an AI chat you can summon from anywhere, so you can rewrite a paragraph, ask a quick question or translate text without switching apps. Extensions cover everything from Notion to Spotify to your calendar.
The free version is excellent on its own, so only pay if you want the AI. It is a power-user tool, and you get the most from it if you enjoy learning shortcuts.
Who it's for
Anyone on a Mac who wants to do more from the keyboard and less with the mouse.
Best for
- Launching apps and files
- Clipboard history
- Quick AI questions from anywhere
- Window management
- Snippets and text expansion
Why it made the list
The single biggest daily speed-up for computer work, and the free tier is more than enough to start.
