OpusClip

Turns long videos into short clips, and edits raw talking-head footage by chat.

FreemiumFrom $15/moWorks with Claude Code

Quick take

  • Drop in a long video and it hands back a batch of captioned vertical clips, each with a hook.
  • AI Producer edits raw talking-head footage into a finished short from a brief, then takes changes by chat.
  • The free plan is 60 processing minutes a month with watermarked caption templates. Pro at $29 a month adds the scheduler, team seats and export to Premiere.
  • It's made for people talking to camera. Cinematic edits and screen recordings need another tool.

What is OpusClip?

OpusClip started as a clipping tool. You give it a podcast, webinar or YouTube video, it finds the moments worth posting, cuts them into vertical shorts and adds captions, reframing and a hook. It works on most kinds of video, not only podcasts.

AI Producer, its newer editor, works the other way round. You upload a short piece of raw talking-head footage, brief it like a human editor, and it does the rough cut, captions, B-roll, motion graphics, music and sound effects. Then you type the changes you want. It's in open beta and comes with your OpusClip account, and a plugin lets you run it from Claude Code or ChatGPT.

Use OpusClip to pull the best moment out of a long video, then finish it in AI Producer. It's built for people talking to camera, so it isn't the tool for cinematic edits or screen recordings.

Which plan should you pick?

Free is enough to see if the clips are any good. Starter removes the watermark, but Pro is the plan most people end up on: it adds the scheduler, all 9 posting platforms, extra brand templates, 16:9 and 1:1 reframing and export to Premiere. Business only makes sense for agencies or media teams.
