AI Producer is OpusClip's AI video editor. You upload raw talking-head footage and tell it what you want, the same way you'd brief a human editor. It sends back a finished short with the cuts, captions, B-roll, motion graphics, music and sound effects done, and you type any changes you want.
It edits your real footage, so there are no avatars or AI voices. It's in open beta and it comes with your OpusClip account.
Why it's faster than Premiere or CapCut
Most of the hour you'd spend on a 60-second video goes on repetitive jobs. AI Producer does those for you:
| Job | Premiere Pro or CapCut | AI Producer |
|---|---|---|
| Cutting filler words and pauses | 20 to 40 min scrubbing the waveform | One prompt for the whole file |
| Captions and styling | 10 to 20 min, plus fixing misreads | Done in the first pass |
| Finding and placing B-roll | 15 to 30 min hunting stock | Picked and timed to what you're saying |
| Motion graphics and text overlays | 20 min plus, if you know how | Described in a sentence |
| Sound effects and audio cleanup | 10 to 15 min | One pass |
Before you start
| What | Why you need it |
|---|---|
| An OpusClip account | AI Producer is included and runs on your OpusClip credits. Sign in at producer.opus.pro. |
| One talking-head video | One person talking to camera. MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 5 minutes and 1.99 GB. |
| A paid Claude plan (optional) | Only needed if you want to run it from Claude Code in Step 6. |
Step 1: Record footage it can work with
Better footage means fewer rounds of changes later.
- Shoot vertical if it's going to TikTok, Reels or Shorts. Frame yourself from the chest up with the lens at eye level, and keep your eyes about a third of the way down the frame.
- Face your light. A cheap ring light or a window in front of you is enough.
- Wear a clip-on mic. AI Producer can clean up background noise, but it can't rescue a muffled voice. Record 10 seconds and listen back before you start.
- If you fluff a line, keep rolling and say it again. It spots re-takes and keeps the best one.
- Record your hook three or four times. People decide in the first 2 seconds whether to keep watching, so give it a few to choose from.
- Stick to one idea per video. Aim for 15 to 60 seconds once it's edited.
Step 2: Set your defaults
The Home screen has a set of editing skills you can switch on or off. Switch off anything you never want before you upload. It's quicker than asking it to take things out afterwards.
| Skill | What it does |
|---|---|
| Rough cut | Cuts filler words, pauses, dead air and fluffed takes without changing what you said |
| Captions | Animated captions, styled and timed to your voice |
| Voice cleanup | Removes background noise and lifts your voice |
| Auto B-roll | Cutaway shots timed to the words they illustrate |
| Motion graphics | Hook text, stat cards, callouts, arrows and emphasis text |
| Camera movement | Punch-ins and zooms to keep the frame moving |
| Floating overlay | Images or graphics that sit over you instead of cutting away |
| Auto layout | Frames you properly for the format |
| Background music (beta) | A music bed under your voice |
| Sound effect (beta) | Whooshes and hits on text reveals and cuts |
| Scene restyle (beta) | Changes the whole look of the scene (see Step 5) |
You can change any of these for a single project. If you post a lot, set up a Brand Kit too so every video uses your fonts, colours and logo.
Step 3: Upload and write a brief
Upload your raw file at producer.opus.pro. You don't need to set anything else up first.
Then write a brief like you would for a human editor. It reads your transcript and watches the footage, so you don't need to explain what the video is about. Tell it what it can't work out on its own: where the video is going (TikTok, Reels, Shorts or LinkedIn), how it should feel, and anything you don't want, like music or emojis. If you have a look in mind, upload a screenshot of it and ask it to match.
Prompt 1: The first brief
Swap the highlighted parts for your own details.
This is a [TOPIC] video for [TIKTOK / INSTAGRAM REELS / YOUTUBE SHORTS], aimed at [WHO IT'S FOR].
Make it feel [FAST AND PUNCHY / CALM AND PREMIUM / FUNNY].
- Rough cut it: remove filler words, pauses and repeated takes. Keep the best take of each line.
- Make the hook in the first 2 seconds hit hard. Put the hook line on screen as big bold text.
- Bold captions, but keep them clear of my face.
- When I say a number or a key point, put it on screen.
- B-roll only where it actually shows what I'm talking about. Keep my face on screen most of the time.
- Clean up the audio.
- Music bed kept low under my voice. Sound effect on each text reveal.
- Don't use [THINGS YOU DON'T WANT, e.g. emojis, stock footage of people typing].
Match the style in the image I've attached.Short briefs work too:
Cut the filler and add captions. Keep it plain. No music, no B-roll.Make it feel like a product launch: bold captions, a sound effect on each key point, and a stat card for every number I say.Step 4: Check the first draft and the edit log
You get a full draft back with an edit log that lists every change and the reason for it. Read the log first, because it's the quickest way to see what was cut.
If it cut a line you wanted, restore it from the rough cut. If the draft is way off, look at your brief and which skills were switched on before you start asking for changes.
Step 5: Fix the last 5 percent
Keep going in the same chat and type what you want changed. It only touches what you ask about and leaves the rest of the edit alone.
You can type requests in plain English, or type / to pick a specific effect like a title intro, stat card, quote callout or blurred-background cutout. You can also draw on the frame to point at what you mean. For fine control there's a normal timeline underneath, where you can undo or regenerate a single effect, and you can edit the transcript like a document.
Here are some requests you can copy. A timestamp is the point in the video, like 0:12.
Rough cut
Tighten the pauses but leave the one before the punchline.Cut everything before I say "[THE FIRST WORDS OF YOUR HOOK]".Drop the first take of the line at [TIMESTAMP]. Keep the second one.Graphics and B-roll
"Add a graphic" gets you something generic. Tell it the moment, the style and how long to hold it.
When I say "[NUMBER OR KEY WORD]", put it on screen. Bold sans, white on a dark card, slide it in from the left and hold it for 2 seconds.Swap the B-roll at [TIMESTAMP] for something that actually shows [WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT].There's too much B-roll. Keep it to 3 or 4 cutaways of 2 to 4 seconds each and stay on my face the rest of the time.Captions
Make the captions 20% smaller and move them lower so they don't cover my face.Sound
Clean up the audio. There's a fan humming in the background.Take the music out of the first 5 seconds so the hook lands dry.Add a whoosh on every text reveal, and keep the music low under my voice.Restyle the scene (beta)
Restyle changes the look of the whole scene, so a video shot at your desk can look like it was filmed somewhere else. It's a fun extra, but don't use it on every video. Skip it when you need to look exactly like yourself or when you move your hands a lot. Export your normal edit first, then try a restyled version.
Restyle the scene so it looks like [THE LOOK YOU WANT, e.g. a moody late-night studio with neon lights]. Keep me looking like me.When you're happy with it, export the MP4 or share the project link.
Step 6: Run it from Claude for the best results
This is how I edited the video I posted. The AI Producer plugin lets Claude run AI Producer for you. You describe the video, Claude plans the cut, and AI Producer builds the captions, B-roll and motion graphics into a draft. Then you keep making changes in the same chat.
I use Claude Opus 5.5 for this. It makes the best creative calls, like picking the hook and deciding where graphics go.
- Download the Claude Desktop app from claude.com/download and sign in.
- Click the Code tab and set the environment to Local.
- Make a folder called AI Producer and put your raw footage in it, plus a style reference image if you have one. Open that folder as your project.
- Install the plugin by typing these two commands into Claude Code, one at a time:
/plugin marketplace add https://github.com/opus-pro/ai-producer-plugin.git#main/plugin install aip@ai-producer-plugins- Type
/mcp, pick plugin:aip:ai-producer and sign in to your OpusClip account. You only need to do this once. - Type
/modeland pick Opus 5.5. - Type
/aip:aipto start AI Producer, then paste Prompt 2.
Prompt 2: The Claude edit prompt
Swap the highlighted parts for your own details.
Edit [YOUR VIDEO FILE NAME] in this folder using the AI Producer plugin.
It's a [TOPIC] video for [TIKTOK / INSTAGRAM REELS / YOUTUBE SHORTS], aimed at [WHO IT'S FOR]. Make it feel [FAST AND PUNCHY / CALM AND PREMIUM / FUNNY].
- Rough cut it: remove filler words, pauses and repeated takes. Keep the best take of each line.
- Make the first 2 seconds the strongest hook in the footage, with the hook line on screen.
- Add captions, motion graphics and B-roll to match what I'm saying. Use [YOUR REFERENCE IMAGE FILE NAME] as the style reference.
- Clean up the audio. Low music bed, sound effects on text reveals.
- Target length: [YOUR LENGTH, e.g. 45 to 60 seconds]
Before you start, tell me your plan: which takes you're keeping, the hook, and where the graphics and B-roll go. Wait for my OK.Once the first draft is back, ask for changes in the same chat one at a time. The requests in Step 5 work here too.
Tips for better edits
- Ask for one change at a time. When you send three requests in one message, the result gets messy.
- Tie every graphic to a word or a timestamp so it lands where you pictured it.
- Go easy on B-roll. Viewers want to see you, and 3 to 6 short cutaways a minute is plenty.
- Run audio cleanup on every video, even when the audio sounds fine to you. Phone speakers show up hum and room echo you didn't notice.
- Stay in the same chat. A new chat starts from scratch and loses what it knows about your video.
- Leave the experiments until the end. Export a clean version first, then try a restyle or a bigger idea.
- Keep an eye on credits. Every revision uses more, and you can check them under Credits usage in your account menu.
Troubleshooting
My upload won't go through
Check the file is MP4, MOV or WebM, under 5 minutes and under 1.99 GB. Screen recordings and multi-camera footage aren't supported yet. If your video is longer, cut out the part you want first.
The edit stopped halfway through
You've probably run out of credits. AI Producer charges a bit at a time as it works and stops when it can't cover the next part. Top up, then ask it to carry on.
It cut a line I wanted to keep
Find the cut in the edit log and restore it, or tell it: "Put back the line where I say [THE WORDS]."
Claude can't find my video, or /aip:aip doesn't show up
You're probably in a normal chat or a cloud session. Open the Claude Desktop app, click the Code tab, set the environment to Local and open the folder your footage is in. If /aip:aip still doesn't appear, restart Claude Code, then run /mcp and check you're signed in to plugin:aip:ai-producer.
The plugin refuses my account when I sign in
OpusClip is still rolling out plugin access, so some accounts get turned away at sign-in. You aren't charged when that happens. Everything in Steps 1 to 5 still works on the website while you wait.
Nothing happens when I click Install in ChatGPT
Your browser is blocking the pop-up. Allow pop-ups for chatgpt.com and click Install again. Free ChatGPT accounts can't install it, because Codex needs a paid plan.
The ChatGPT plugin gives me an error when I attach a video
You're in a normal ChatGPT chat, which can't pass files to the plugin. Open the ChatGPT desktop app, switch to Codex, start a new chat and try again.
Quick recap
- Record one idea, shot vertical with a good mic, and keep rolling through mistakes
- Switch off the skills you don't want on the Home screen
- Upload at producer.opus.pro and paste Prompt 1
- Read the edit log and restore anything it shouldn't have cut
- Ask for the last few changes one at a time
- For the best results, run it from Claude Code with Opus 5.5 and Prompt 2
