What is it?

Descript treats your recording like a document. It transcribes what was said, and when you delete a sentence from the text, that part of the video or audio disappears too.

That makes it the easiest editor for talking content: podcasts, interviews, screen recordings and course videos. It removes filler words in one click, fixes eye contact, cleans up audio, adds captions and can regenerate a flubbed line in your own voice.

It is not built for cinematic edits or heavy effects. For social clips with lots of visuals, pair it with CapCut.

Who it's for

Podcasters, coaches and creators who record themselves talking and want editing to feel like writing.

Best for

  • Podcast editing
  • Screen recordings and tutorials
  • Removing ums and pauses
  • Captions and subtitles

Why it made the list

Transcript-based editing is the biggest time saver in video for non-editors, and Descript does it best.
