What is it?

Replit is a complete coding environment in a browser tab. There is nothing to install. Describe what you want to build, and Replit Agent writes the code, sets up a database, and deploys the finished app to a live web address.

It removes the part that trips most beginners up: getting a computer set up to run code. Everything, from the editor to the database to hosting, is in one place and billed on one account. That makes it a good first step before you move to Claude Code on your own machine.

Convenience has a cost. Agent usage is metered, the free plan runs out quickly, and your app lives on Replit's servers, so moving it elsewhere later takes some work.

Who it's for

Beginners and non-developers who want to build and launch something without setting up a development environment.

Best for

  • First coding projects
  • Prototypes you can share instantly
  • Small apps with a database
  • Learning to code with help

Why it made the list

The shortest distance from a blank browser tab to an app that is live on the internet.
