Warp

A modern terminal where you can type plain English instead of commands.

What is it?

Warp is a replacement for the terminal, the black text window that tools like Claude Code run inside. It looks and feels like a modern app, with a proper text editor for commands, searchable history and a built-in AI that turns plain English into the right command.

For non-developers, that last part is the point. Instead of memorising commands, you type what you want ("find every PDF in this folder and zip them") and Warp writes and runs it. It also has its own agent mode and plays nicely with Claude Code running inside it.

AI usage is metered by credits, and the free allowance runs down quickly if you lean on agent mode. The terminal itself is free to use without AI.

Who it's for

Anyone who has to use the terminal but never wanted to learn it.

Best for

  • A nicer home for Claude Code
  • Plain-English commands
  • Searchable command history
  • Sharing commands with a team

Why it made the list

It makes the terminal friendly, which lowers the barrier to everything else in this category.
