What is Contentsquare (formerly Hotjar)?
Hotjar is now Contentsquare. Contentsquare bought Hotjar in 2021 and merged the two in 2025, and you can no longer create a new Hotjar account. Hotjar's heatmaps, recordings and surveys live on inside Contentsquare, and existing Hotjar users log in there with the same details.
It shows you why visitors don't convert. Heatmaps show where people click and how far they scroll, session replays let you watch real visits, funnels show where people drop out, and surveys ask visitors what stopped them. Sense, its AI assistant, summarises replays and heatmaps and answers questions about your data on paid plans, and an MCP connection lets Claude query your data on every plan.
The free plan got much bigger with the move: up to 200,000 sessions a month instead of Hotjar's old 35 a day. The catch is that it overlaps heavily with Microsoft Clarity, which is free with no limits. Contentsquare's edge is surveys, a more polished interface and AI summaries, and the advanced plans are priced on request.
