Pro video editing, colour and audio in one app, with a full-featured free version.

Adobe Premiere
Adobe's professional video editor, with Generative Extend, AI search and auto captions.
Quick take
- The standard pro editor for agencies and teams already paying for Adobe apps.
- Single app is $22.99 a month on an annual plan; Creative Cloud Pro with every Adobe app is $69.99. There is a 7-day trial, no free plan.
- Generative Extend and Media Intelligence search are useful, but generation uses credits, and the single-app plan gets only 25 a month.
- Adobe renamed it Adobe Premiere; the desktop app is the same Premiere Pro.
- Recent versions have a lot of crash complaints. Keep autosave on and update with care.
What is Adobe Premiere?
Adobe Premiere, called Premiere Pro until Adobe dropped the "Pro", is one of the two industry-standard desktop video editors. It handles everything from a short ad to a feature-length documentary, and its AI features sit inside a normal editing timeline: Generative Extend adds a few extra frames or room tone to a clip that ends too soon, Media Intelligence lets you search your footage by describing a shot, text-based editing builds a rough cut from the transcript, Enhance Speech cleans up dialogue, and captions can be generated and translated into 18 languages. There is also a mobile version for iPhone and Android.
Pick it if your team already uses Photoshop, After Effects or other Adobe apps, or works with agencies and freelancers who swap Premiere projects. DaVinci Resolve is cheaper over time and stronger at colour; CapCut and Descript are far easier for simple marketing videos.
The catch is cost and stability. It is a subscription with no free plan, the AI generation features use a small monthly allowance of credits, and recent versions have drawn many reports of crashes and freezes, with some users rolling back to older versions.
