Heidi

AI medical scribe that listens to a consult and writes the clinical notes and letters.

4.2our rating

Quick take

  • Talk to your patient, press stop, and a draft note in your template is ready in under a minute.
  • The free plan covers one clinician with unlimited transcription and standard templates, which is enough to judge it on real consults.
  • Paid plans (Clinician, Practice, Enterprise) no longer show prices on the site. You start a 14-day trial or talk to sales.
  • Every note still needs a read-through. Users report occasional missed details, made-up lines and slower support since it grew.
  • EHR integration and team data settings sit on the Practice plan, not the single-clinician one.

What is Heidi?

Heidi is an AI scribe for clinicians. You start a session on your phone, computer or the browser extension, talk with the patient as normal, and Heidi turns the conversation into structured notes in the template you choose (SOAP, a GP consult note, a physio assessment and so on). From the same session it can draft referral letters, patient summaries and other documents, and you can ask it follow-up questions about the consult. It was founded in Melbourne and is widely used by Australian GPs, specialists and allied health practitioners, with a growing base in the UK, US and elsewhere.

Pick Heidi if you are a solo clinician or a small practice that wants to start on a free plan and set it up yourself in an afternoon. Abridge is the hospital and health-system option, bought centrally and built into Epic. General meeting note-takers like Granola or Otter are not built for clinical templates, patient records or health privacy rules, so they are the wrong tool here.

The catch: you still have to read and correct every note, because recent user feedback mentions missed details and the odd invented line. Paid pricing is no longer listed on the site (you have to talk to sales or start a trial), and direct sync into your practice software only comes on the practice-level plans.

Best use cases

Ways Heidi can slot into your week.

  1. 1

Finish notes before the next patient

Run Heidi during each consult and review the draft note between appointments instead of after hours.

  2. 2

    Referral letters in one step

After the consult, ask Heidi to draft the specialist referral from the same session, then check and send.

  3. 3

    Allied health assessments

Physios, psychologists and dietitians use their own templates so initial assessments come out in the format they already use.

  4. 4

    Patient-friendly summaries

Generate a plain-language summary of the plan to email or print for the patient.

How it fits your tech stack

It sits next to your practice management software. On the Practice plan it can push notes into supported systems; otherwise you copy the finished note across. Your practice still owns consent, privacy notices and record keeping.
