Evoto AI

Retouch skin, glasses glare and backgrounds across a whole portrait shoot in minutes.

FreemiumFrom From $49 for 200 credits

Quick take

  • The quickest way to retouch a whole portrait or headshot session. Fix one photo, sync the edits to the rest.
  • Editing is free. You pay one credit for each edited photo you export, roughly $0.05 to $0.25 a photo depending on plan.
  • Results look natural if you go easy on the sliders, but you still need to check every face. Pushed too far, skin looks plastic.
  • It's a retouching tool, not a full photo editor. Most photographers keep Lightroom for raw editing and colour.
  • Its January 2026 AI headshot generator, since withdrawn, dented trust with some photographers. Read its data terms if that matters to you.

What is Evoto AI?

Evoto is desktop retouching software for people who photograph faces for a living. You fix one portrait (blemishes, skin tone, flyaway hair, glare on glasses, wrinkled clothes, a messy backdrop) and it applies the same fixes across the whole set. It also culls shoots, matches colour across a gallery and round-trips with Lightroom Classic. Version 8.0 in September 2026 added culling that groups a wedding into its story, plus a video retouching plugin for DaVinci Resolve.

Use it if you deliver lots of retouched portraits: corporate headshots, school photos, weddings and events. Lightroom and Photoshop can do all of this by hand, and tools like Imagen or Aftershoot handle culling and colour, but Evoto is the one photographers name for fast, adjustable skin and face cleanup at volume. Many use Imagen or Aftershoot for the first pass and Evoto only for the portraits that need retouching.

The catch is the credit model: editing is free, but every edited photo you export costs a credit, so busy photographers feel the cost. In January 2026 it also briefly launched an AI headshot generator aimed at the photographers' own clients, then pulled it and apologised. Some photographers still don't trust it.

Start with the free credits on a real job. If you retouch a few hundred photos a month, Basic Plus brings each photo to well under 10 cents. Pay as you go suits occasional work but costs two to three times as much per photo. Remember credits are lost if you let a yearly plan lapse for more than 30 days.

Best use cases

Ways Evoto AI can slot into your week.

  1. 1

    Team headshots in an afternoon

Retouch one person's photo, sync the skin, glare and backdrop fixes across the whole team, then check each face and export.

  2. 2

    Wedding portrait cleanup

Cull the day with story grouping, then retouch only the bride, groom and family portraits that need it.

  3. 3

    School and event photo days

Batch hundreds of portraits with the same crop, background and colour settings so the set looks consistent.

  4. 4

    Fix glasses and wrinkles

Remove glare and clothing creases that would otherwise mean a reshoot or a long Photoshop session.

How it fits your tech stack

Evoto sits between your camera and your delivery. Most photographers cull and colour in Lightroom, Imagen or Aftershoot, send portraits to Evoto for retouching, then deliver through their usual gallery. It also works on its own if you don't use Lightroom.

Connects to

  • Lightroom Classic
  • DaVinci Resolve

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Cuts portrait retouching time dramatically when you have many faces to fix
  • Fine slider control, so results can look natural
  • Glasses glare and backdrop cleanup save reshoots
  • You only pay for edited photos you export, and re-exports are free
  • Fast, regular updates with culling and video added in 2025 and 2026

Cons

  • Paying per exported photo adds up for high-volume photographers
  • Credit expiry and renewal rules confuse people, and some report surprise charges and slow support
  • Account and licence glitches sometimes lock paying users out until support steps in
  • Weaker raw editing and colour than Lightroom, so you usually still need both
  • Culling and batch results still need checking image by image
