Perplexity's free web browser with an assistant that reads your tabs and does tasks.
Quick take
Comet is a web browser made by Perplexity. It looks and works like Chrome, runs your Chrome extensions and imports your bookmarks, but it has an assistant down the side that can see the page you're on. Ask it to summarise a long article, compare three products open in different tabs, pull the key points out of a YouTube video or draft a reply to the email in front of you.
It's free on Mac, Windows, Android and iPhone. There is also an agent side: hand it a job like 'find a dentist near me with Saturday appointments and fill in the booking form' and watch it click through the sites for you. Since September 2026 that runs on Perplexity Computer credits rather than being included with Pro, which upset a lot of paying users. Pro comes with a one-off bundle of credits, Max gets a monthly allowance, and after that you pay as you go. Pick Comet if you want an AI browser you can use daily without paying; pick Dia if you work inside Slack, Jira and Confluence all day and want a browser built around that.
The catch is trust. Security researchers have shown again and again in 2025 and 2026 that a web page or calendar invite can hide instructions that trick Comet's agent into leaking email or files. Perplexity patches each one and has added safeguards, but nobody has fully solved this for any AI browser. Keep the agent away from your bank, your password manager and anything you can't undo.
Anyone who researches, compares or reads a lot online and wants an AI helper in the browser without paying for it.
Comet Assistant
A sidebar that reads the page and your open tabs and answers questions, with Perplexity's sources.
Browser control
Using Computer credits, it can click, scroll and fill in forms across sites to finish a job while you watch.
Work mode
Hands bigger jobs to Perplexity Computer, which keeps working in the background and is metered by credits.
Works like Chrome
Built on the same engine, so Chrome extensions, bookmarks and passwords come across in a few clicks.
On every device
Mac, Windows, Android and, since March 2026, iPhone and iPad.
Comet Plus
A $5 a month add-on, included with Pro and Max, that opens paywalled articles from partner publishers.

Comet Plus
$5/mo
Readers who want partner publishers' paywalled articles.
Perplexity Pro
$20/mo, or $200/yr
Anyone who wants the agent to do tasks for them.
Perplexity Max
$200/mo, or $2,000/yr
Heavy users running many tasks in the background.
Which plan should you pick?
Use it free: the sidebar assistant alone is worth having, and most people never need more. Pro makes sense if you want Perplexity's research tools anyway, but don't buy it just for the browser agent, since Pro's credits are a one-off bundle. Nobody needs Max just for the browser.
Prices in USD unless noted, checked 21 October 2026. Vendors change plans often, so confirm on their site before you buy.
Ways Comet can slot into your week.
Read less, learn more
Open a long industry report or competitor's pricing page and ask for the five things that matter to you.
Shortlist suppliers
Open four supplier sites in tabs and ask Comet to line them up on price, minimums and delivery times.
Tame the inbox
With Gmail open, ask it to summarise unread threads and draft short replies for you to check.
Book the boring stuff
With credits, have the agent find and fill in a booking or enquiry form while you watch and approve.
Comet replaces Chrome rather than sitting beside it, so the switch costs you nothing in extensions or bookmarks. It pairs naturally with a Perplexity subscription; if your team lives in Atlassian, Dia fits better, and for long unattended jobs Manus or Genspark go further.
