Meshy

Turn a photo or a sentence into a 3D model you can print, animate or drop into a game.

FreemiumFrom $20/moWorks with Claude Code

Quick take

  • The easiest way to get a 3D model from a picture or a sentence. Upload, wait about a minute, download.
  • Great for printing, prototypes and indie game props. Not a replacement for a 3D artist on detailed or precise work.
  • Meshes are dense and messy by professional standards, and the side of an object the photo can't see is guessed.
  • The free plan gives 100 credits a month, a handful of models, and your work is public. Pro at about $20 a month makes it private.
  • Strong extras: auto rigging and animation, 3D print checks and repair, and an API and MCP server for Claude Code.

What is Meshy?

Meshy turns a photo, a sketch or a few words into a textured 3D model in about a minute. You can then add realistic textures, rig a character and make it walk or dance, cut the polygon count for a game, or check and repair the file for 3D printing. It exports the usual formats (STL, 3MF, OBJ, FBX, GLB, USDZ) and plugs into Blender, Unity, Unreal, Godot and the main 3D printer slicers.

Use it when you need a 3D object and don't have a 3D artist: a figurine or keyring to print, props for an indie game, a product model for an online store, or a quick prototype. Make the reference image in ChatGPT Images or Nano Banana first, then bring it into Meshy. Tripo and Rodin do the same job, and in forums Meshy is the one people name most often, with Rodin praised for fine detail.

The catch is that the models are not what a professional 3D artist would make. Meshes are dense and messy, the back of an object is guessed, small text turns to mush, and many print files need repair. On the free plan your models are public and others can reuse them as long as they credit Meshy.

Who's using it, and who it's for

  • Indie game developers
  • 3D printing hobbyists
  • Etsy and maker sellers
  • Designers
  • Educators

Indie game makers, 3D printing hobbyists and sellers, and marketers who need 3D objects without hiring a 3D artist.

Key features

  • Image and text to 3D

Upload a photo, sketch or several views, or describe an object, and get a textured 3D model back in about a minute.

  • AI texturing

Paint realistic textures onto any model from a prompt or reference image, up to 4K and 8K detail.

  • Rigging and animation

Rig humans and animals automatically and pick from hundreds of ready-made moves like walking, jumping and dancing.

  • 3D printing tools

Check printability, repair faulty meshes, split big models into parts and make multi-colour print files for the main slicers.

  • Low poly and remesh

Reduce a heavy model to a set polygon count so it runs smoothly in a game or on the web.

  • Meshy Edit

Select part of a model and describe a change, and only that part is regenerated. Launched October 2026.

Best use cases

Ways Meshy can slot into your week.

  1. 1

    Print a product or gift

Photograph an object or generate an image of it, turn it into a 3D model, run the print check, and send it to Bambu Studio or Cura.

  2. 2

    Props for a small game

Generate weapons, furniture and creatures, reduce them to a low polygon count, and drop them into Unity, Godot or Unreal.

  3. 3

    3D and AR product views

Turn product photos into a 3D model for a spin view or an AR preview on your store.

  4. 4

    Prototype before you brief

Show a 3D artist or manufacturer a rough model so the brief is clear before you pay for the real thing.

How it fits your tech stack

Meshy sits after an image generator and before your 3D software. Make concept images in ChatGPT Images or Nano Banana, turn them into models in Meshy, then clean up in Blender, send to a slicer for printing, or import into a game engine. Its API and MCP server let Claude Code build models as part of a project.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Very easy: a usable 3D model from one photo in about a minute
  • Forum users often rate its results ahead of other AI 3D generators
  • Rigging, animation and print repair built in, not bolted on
  • Exports to every common 3D and printing format
  • API and MCP server for developers

Cons

  • Topology and UV layouts are poor by professional standards, so serious game or film work needs cleanup
  • Models are very heavy, and cutting the polygon count makes them look noticeably worse
  • Unseen sides are invented, small text turns to shapes, and many print files contain overlapping parts
  • Free plan was cut to 100 credits in August 2026 and free models are public
  • Some users report hard cancellations and slow support
