What is it?

Consensus searches hundreds of millions of peer-reviewed papers and summarises the findings. Ask 'does intermittent fasting help with weight loss' and it shows how many studies say yes, no or mixed, with a plain summary of each.

It's the quickest way to check whether a claim you've read has real research behind it, which makes it useful for health, nutrition, management and marketing claims alike. Each answer links to the actual papers.

It only covers published research, so it won't help with business or news questions. And a count of papers isn't the same as the quality of those papers.

Who it's for

Anyone who wants to know whether something is backed by actual studies before repeating it.

Best for

  • Fact-checking health claims
  • Finding studies on a topic
  • Evidence for a blog or pitch
  • Student literature reviews

Why it made the list

The friendliest way into academic research for people who aren't academics.
