What is it?

This community server connects Claude to your personal Telegram account. Ask "what did I miss in the team group today?" or "draft a reply to everyone who asked about pricing" and Claude works through your real chats.

Setup takes about 15 minutes. You clone the project, get an API ID from Telegram, and make a session string (a login code that gives full access to your account, so keep it private). It needs Python and uv. The command below starts in read-only mode. Remove TELEGRAM_EXPOSED_TOOLS when you're happy for Claude to send.

It's unofficial and logs in as you, not as a bot. Telegram can flag accounts that run lots of sessions at once. If you only want to message Claude Code from your phone, Claude Code's own Telegram plugin does that through a bot instead.

What Claude can do once it's connected

  • Summarise your unread chats and pull out anything urgent
  • Search chat history and find an old message
  • Draft and send replies, polls and scheduled messages
  • Manage groups and channels: invites, admins and pinned posts
  • Look up and organise your contacts

Install in Claude Code

Open your terminal (the text window where you run Claude Code) in your project folder, then paste this command to connect it:

Command
claude mcp add telegram -e TELEGRAM_API_ID=YOUR_API_ID -e TELEGRAM_API_HASH=YOUR_API_HASH -e TELEGRAM_SESSION_STRING=YOUR_SESSION_STRING -e TELEGRAM_EXPOSED_TOOLS=read-only -- uv --directory /full/path/to/telegram-mcp run main.py

Other ways to set it up:

Setup
# Before the command above:
git clone https://github.com/chigwell/telegram-mcp.git
cd telegram-mcp
uv sync
# Get your API ID and hash at https://my.telegram.org/apps, then make a session string:
uv run session_string_generator.py --qr
# Don't install it with uvx or pip: the telegram-mcp name there belongs to a different project.

The first time you use it, you'll be asked to sign in or paste an API key (a private code from the app that lets Claude use your account).

Who it's for

People who run communities, clients or teams on Telegram and want help keeping up.

Best for

  • Catching up on group chats
  • Drafting replies
  • Managing a community
  • Searching old messages

Why it made the list

It's the most complete and actively updated Telegram server, with a read-only mode for safety.
