What is it?

Asana is where a lot of teams plan their work. This is Asana's official connector, so Claude can turn a messy meeting note into proper tasks, move dates around or tell you what's overdue on a project, all in your real Asana account.

In Claude on the web or desktop, it's in the connector directory: go to Settings > Connectors, find Asana and sign in. Claude Code takes one extra step. Asana's newer server needs you to make a free app in Asana's developer console first, then paste its Client ID into the command below. Asana's plugin for Claude Code walks you through it.

Claude only sees what your Asana account can already see, and workspace admins on Enterprise plans can block or allow AI apps.

What Claude can do once it's connected

  • Create tasks and projects from a meeting note or a plan
  • Update due dates, assignees and task details
  • Search tasks and projects across your workspace
  • Pull a status overview of a project or portfolio
  • List what's assigned to you or a teammate

Install in Claude Code

Open your terminal (the text window where you run Claude Code) in your project folder, then paste this command to connect it:

Command
claude mcp add --transport http --client-id YOUR_CLIENT_ID --client-secret --callback-port 8080 asana https://mcp.asana.com/v2/mcp

Other ways to set it up:

Setup
# Before the command above, make your own Asana app (one time):
# 1. Go to https://app.asana.com/0/my-apps and create an app
# 2. Under OAuth, add this redirect URL: http://localhost:8080/callback
# 3. Put the Client ID in the command. Claude Code asks for the secret and keeps it in your keychain.
# Or let Asana's plugin walk you through it:
claude plugin install asana@claude-plugins-official

The first time you use it, you'll be asked to sign in or paste an API key (a private code from the app that lets Claude use your account).

Who it's for

Teams and small businesses that already run their projects in Asana.

Best for

  • Turning notes into tasks
  • Project status updates
  • Finding overdue work
  • Assigning work to the team

Why it made the list

It's Asana's own server and one of the most-installed work tools in Claude's directory.
