What is QuickBooks?

QuickBooks Online, from Intuit, is the accounting software most US small businesses run on. It connects to your bank and cards, learns how you categorise each transaction, and records similar ones automatically from then on. You send invoices and take payments, pay bills, track sales tax and contractors, and run profit and loss reports. Bigger plans add inventory, project profit tracking, budgets and up to 25 users.

Intuit now brands its AI as Intuit Intelligence. It sorts expenses, finds tax deductions, cleans up your books, creates invoices in bulk, estimates quarterly tax payments and, on higher plans, catches errors before you file. Some of these are still in beta with limited capacity. There's also an official QuickBooks app for Claude, so you can ask Claude about your books and, in newer versions, create invoices from the chat.

The catch: prices keep climbing. Simple Start is $38 a month for one user, and Plus, the plan with inventory and projects, is $140. Many of the AI features only arrive on Essentials ($85) or higher. The Claude connector is US-only for now, and QuickBooks is far less common than Xero in Australia and the UK.
