DataSnipper
Excel add-in that matches audit and finance work to source documents automatically.
Quick take
- The go-to Excel add-in for matching spreadsheet figures to source documents, with a clickable evidence trail.
- Auditors on Capterra rate it highly (about 4.7 out of 5) and say it is easy to pick up.
- No public prices and per-seat minimums. Better value for firms with many auditors than for a sole practitioner.
- Big PDFs and embedded documents can make workbooks slow.
What is DataSnipper?
DataSnipper is an add-in for Excel used by auditors and finance teams. You drop invoices, bank statements, contracts and other PDFs into your workbook, and it matches the numbers in your spreadsheet to the source documents, pulls figures out of forms and tables, and leaves clickable links (snips) back to the evidence. Higher tiers add AI agents that run testing steps, a financial statement checking suite, and an Audit Workbench for reviews.
Pick DataSnipper if your team spends hours vouching, ticking and tying in Excel. It is used across the big audit firms and many corporate finance teams, and there is little else that does this job inside Excel. General AI in Excel, like Microsoft 365 Copilot, can analyse data but does not build an evidence trail an auditor can sign off.
The catch: prices are not public and there are per-seat minimums, which smaller firms find hard to justify. Large PDFs and heavily linked workbooks can slow Excel down, and expect a few weeks of setup before it fits your methodology.
