HireVue
Video interviews, AI interviewing and skills assessments for hiring at scale.
Quick take
- The best-known platform for one-way video interviews and assessments, used by large employers for volume hiring.
- It saves recruiters time, but many candidates find talking to a camera impersonal and stressful.
- AI scoring of interviews faces legal and ethical scrutiny. HireVue dropped facial analysis in 2021, and bias audit and consent laws now apply in several places.
- Pricing is by quote only, aimed at enterprise budgets.
What is HireVue?
HireVue runs the early stages of hiring for large employers. Candidates record answers to set questions on video in their own time (one-way interviews) or do live video interviews, take game-based or skills assessments, and increasingly talk to an AI interviewer. Recruiters review answers side by side, and the AI can score responses against the job's competencies. It also has job matching on career sites, interview scheduling, and tools to spot cheating.
Pick HireVue if you hire hundreds or thousands of people a year, such as graduate programmes, retail or contact centres, and need a structured, consistent first screen. Paradox is better for hourly roles where speed and text-based chat matter more than video. Eightfold suits companies that want AI matching across their whole talent pool, including existing staff.
The catch: AI in hiring is under scrutiny. HireVue dropped facial analysis from its scoring in 2021 after criticism, and in 2025 the ACLU filed a complaint alleging an AI-scored interview disadvantaged a deaf Indigenous applicant (HireVue says the AI assessment wasn't used). Candidates often dislike one-way video interviews, and laws in places like New York City, Illinois and the EU set rules on bias audits, notice and consent. Talk to your lawyers before turning on AI scoring.
