Which plan to pickSkip Plus unless you are happy with Grok. Premium is the realistic starting point if you want Claude or OpenAI models, and budget for the extra usage billing on top of the $30. There is also a $200 Ultra plan with 50x the Plus usage for people who live in it.Start on Pro. It is enough to build a small site or tool in evenings and weekends. If you hit the limit most days, Max 5x is the next step; it costs five times as much but usually works out cheaper than paying for the API directly.Start on the free Individual tier; it is the whole point. If you hit the weekly limits and you also use Gemini for other things, Google AI Pro at $19.99 is a sensible step. Ultra only makes sense for full-time developers.

Pros and cons

AttributeCursorClaude CodeGoogle Antigravity
Pros
  • The clearest view of what an AI is doing to your code
  • Autocomplete is still the best in the category
  • Feels familiar instantly if you have used VS Code
  • Cloud agents and code review on the mid plans
  • Finishes real tasks end to end, not just suggestions you have to apply
  • Best-in-class at understanding a whole codebase before it changes anything
  • Runs in the terminal, desktop app, web, phone and the main editors
  • CLAUDE.md, Skills and MCPs make it fit your way of working
  • One Claude subscription covers both chat and coding
  • Free tier is good enough for real projects
  • Agent manager and verification artifacts make reviewing AI work easier
  • Browser agent tests your app, not just the code
  • Included with Google AI Pro, which many people already pay for
Cons
  • Cheap plans only give you Grok models
  • Claude and OpenAI usage is billed on top of the subscription, so the real cost is hard to predict
  • The pricing page is confusing and has changed several times this year
  • Agent runs are less thorough than Claude Code on big tasks
  • No free tier, and the Pro usage cap can run out in an afternoon of heavy work
  • The terminal is intimidating for non-developers at first
  • It will happily change things you did not ask about unless you set boundaries
  • Costs on Max or the API add up fast for teams
  • Free limits have been cut before and could change again
  • Capacity errors at busy times on the free tier
  • Tied to Gemini models, so you cannot bring Claude or OpenAI
  • The product has been renamed and reorganised more than once this year
