What is it?

OfficeCLI is a single program that lets Claude read, create and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files without Microsoft Office installed. It works out more than 350 Excel formulas as it writes, so totals are already correct when you open the file.

Its standout feature is that it can render a document to an image or web page. That lets Claude look at what it made, spot a broken layout and fix it before handing the file over.

It overlaps with Anthropic's own docx, xlsx and pptx skills. Those are the simpler choice for most people. OfficeCLI suits heavier, repeated document work, and it also has small add-ons for Python and Node if you want to script it.

Install in Claude Code

On a Mac run brew install officecli, or on macOS and Linux run curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/iOfficeAI/OfficeCLI/main/install.sh | bash. Then run officecli install, which adds its skill to Claude Code and any other coding agents it finds.
