Coding Workflows

Feature development

A seven-step routine for adding a feature: understand, ask, design, build, review.

What is it?

Anthropic's structured workflow for building a new feature. One command takes Claude through discovery (what problem are we solving), exploring your existing code, clarifying questions, a design you approve, implementation, and a quality review, with specialist helpers for the exploration and review steps.

Without it, Claude jumps straight to code and you find out what it assumed later. With it, the questions come first and the design is agreed before anything is written.

It overlaps with Superpowers. Pick this if you want something lighter and official; pick Superpowers if you want the full method.

Install in Claude Code

In Claude Code run /plugin install feature-dev@claude-plugins-official. Then start a job with /feature-dev followed by a description of what you want.

Try this prompt

Paste into Claude Code
/feature-dev Add a members-only area to my site where customers can see their past orders.

Who it's for

Anyone adding real features to an existing project rather than starting from scratch.

Best for

  • New features on an existing site
  • Changes that touch several files
  • Getting a design to approve first
  • Built-in quality review

Why it made the list

It is the official, low-ceremony way to make Claude think before it builds.
