Claude's built-in knowledge stops at a cut-off date. Perplexity's official server fixes that: Claude can search the live web through Perplexity and come back with recent, cited answers.
There are four tools: a plain search, a quick ask, a reasoning mode and a deep research mode that can run for a few minutes and hand back a full report. Perplexity hosts it, so you only need an API key.
