Which plan to pickStart on Pro to see which jobs it handles well for you. If you hand it real work most days you will hit the limits, and Max is the plan that makes it a daily tool.Hermes itself costs nothing. If you already pay for an AI model's API, plug that in. If you'd rather not collect separate keys for models, search and browsing, Nous Portal Plus at $20 a month covers light use. There's also a free Portal tier limited to free models.Use it free: the sidebar assistant alone is worth having, and most people never need more. Pro makes sense if you want Perplexity's research tools anyway, but don't buy it just for the browser agent, since Pro's credits are a one-off bundle. Nobody needs Max just for the browser.

Pros and cons

AttributeClaude CoworkHermes AgentComet
Pros

  • No separate subscription if you already pay for Claude
  • Scheduled tasks and phone hand-off make it feel like an assistant

  • Free and open source under the MIT licence
  • Built-in memory and self-improving skills
  • Desktop app for Mac and Windows makes setup easier than most
  • Works with almost any AI model, including free ones

Cons
  • Agent tasks burn through usage limits quickly, especially on Pro
  • Long or complex jobs sometimes stall or produce wrong results
  • Scheduled tasks need your computer awake with Claude open
  • Files with hidden instructions can trick it, and when it controls your screen nothing walls it off from the rest of your computer
  • Still rolling out: Team and Free don't have the merged version yet
  • Being always on still needs a server and technical setup
  • Its memory works on its own and is hard to check or correct
  • Smaller library of community skills than OpenClaw
  • AI costs are unpredictable when it runs all day
  • An agent with your email and files can do damage if it gets things wrong
  • Researchers found repeated ways in 2025 and 2026 for web pages to hijack the agent, so it's risky with logged-in accounts
  • The agent is slow and sometimes gets stuck or gives up halfway
  • Browser control moved behind Computer credits in September 2026, so Pro users lost an included feature
  • Paying users complain of quiet limits, model downgrades and features being removed
  • Amazon sued over its shopping agent, and the case is still running
