Which plan to pickStart on Pro. It is enough to build a small site or tool in evenings and weekends. If you hit the limit most days, Max 5x is the next step; it costs five times as much but usually works out cheaper than paying for the API directly.Start on the free Individual tier; it is the whole point. If you hit the weekly limits and you also use Gemini for other things, Google AI Pro at $19.99 is a sensible step. Ultra only makes sense for full-time developers.Pro is the sweet spot for an individual: cheap, unlimited autocomplete and enough credits for a few agent tasks a week. Only move to Pro+ if you find yourself buying extra credits every month.

Pros and cons

AttributeClaude CodeGoogle AntigravityGitHub Copilot
Pros
  • Finishes real tasks end to end, not just suggestions you have to apply
  • Best-in-class at understanding a whole codebase before it changes anything
  • Runs in the terminal, desktop app, web, phone and the main editors
  • CLAUDE.md, Skills and MCPs make it fit your way of working
  • One Claude subscription covers both chat and coding
  • Free tier is good enough for real projects
  • Agent manager and verification artifacts make reviewing AI work easier
  • Browser agent tests your app, not just the code
  • Included with Google AI Pro, which many people already pay for
  • The cheapest paid plan in the category with unlimited autocomplete
  • Works inside the editors and the GitHub site you already use
  • Agent and code review are built into the GitHub workflow
  • Enterprise controls are mature because GitHub already had them
Cons
  • No free tier, and the Pro usage cap can run out in an afternoon of heavy work
  • The terminal is intimidating for non-developers at first
  • It will happily change things you did not ask about unless you set boundaries
  • Costs on Max or the API add up fast for teams
  • Free limits have been cut before and could change again
  • Capacity errors at busy times on the free tier
  • Tied to Gemini models, so you cannot bring Claude or OpenAI
  • The product has been renamed and reorganised more than once this year
  • Agent quality lags Claude Code and Codex on complex tasks
  • $10 of credits a month disappears quickly once you use agents
  • Pretty pointless if your code is not on GitHub
  • Business and Enterprise prices are not published
