Duck.ai

DuckDuckGo's private AI chat: no account, no stored prompts, free to use.

FreemiumFrom $9.99/mo or $99.99/yr

Quick take

  • The simplest private AI chat around. No account, prompts are passed on without your IP address, and chats are saved only on your device.
  • Free gets the small models (Claude Haiku 4.5, GPT-6 Luna, Mistral Small 4 and open models), which are fine for everyday questions but not deep work.
  • Plus at $9.99 a month adds Claude Sonnet 4.6 and GPT-5.6 Terra, and Pro at $19.99 adds Claude Opus 4.8 and GPT-5.6 Sol. Both also include DuckDuckGo's VPN and identity protection; you can't buy the AI part alone.
  • It's a simple chat window. File uploads are limited to images and short PDFs, and there are no projects or connections to your other apps.

What is Duck.ai?

Duck.ai is DuckDuckGo's AI chat. You open duck.ai, pick a model from OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral or an open model, and start typing. There's no account to create. DuckDuckGo passes your message on without your IP address, says it doesn't store prompts or let them be used for training, and keeps your recent chats on your own device.

Use it for the quick questions you'd rather not have tied to your name, or when you want ChatGPT-style help on a computer where you don't want to sign in. It also does voice chat, makes images and reads images and short PDFs. Compared with Venice it's simpler and more trusted, but it doesn't loosen the models' content rules.

The free models are the small, fast versions, so answers are a step behind paid ChatGPT or Claude. There are no projects, connectors or long-file work, and the paid plans only come bundled with DuckDuckGo's VPN and privacy services.
