Knowledge Work: Finance

Journal entries, reconciliations, variance analysis and month-end close, done properly.

What is it?

Anthropic's official finance plugin adds commands for /journal-entry, /reconciliation, /income-statement, /variance-analysis and /sox-testing, backed by skills for journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, variance analysis and a month-end close checklist.

Claude follows the method an experienced accountant would: proper debits and credits with supporting notes, reconciling items sorted and aged, and variances broken down into price and volume drivers with a written explanation.

It drafts the work for a qualified person to review. It doesn't replace your accountant's sign-off.

Install in Claude Code

In Claude Cowork, open the plugin directory on claude.com and add Finance. In Claude Code run /plugin marketplace add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins, then /plugin install finance@knowledge-work-plugins. Connect your data warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery or Databricks), Microsoft 365 or Slack when it asks; without them it still works, you just paste the context in yourself.

Try this prompt

Paste into Claude Code
/variance-analysis Compare September to August using the attached P&L and explain the three biggest movements in plain English for the owners.

Who it's for

Bookkeepers, finance managers and owners who close their own books.

Best for

  • Month-end close
  • Bank and account reconciliations
  • Explaining P&L movements
  • Preparing for an audit

Why it made the list

It's Anthropic's own finance playbook, and the month-end close checklist alone saves hours.
