Which plan to pickPro is the sweet spot for an individual: cheap, unlimited autocomplete and enough credits for a few agent tasks a week. Only move to Pro+ if you find yourself buying extra credits every month.Stay free if you only download models or use HuggingChat. Pay the $9 for PRO the moment you want to host a demo or use GPU Spaces regularly. Anything heavier, like a private model for your app, is billed by the hour on top.If you already have ChatGPT Plus, you have Codex: just try it. If you are choosing between this and Claude Code with no existing subscription, Plus at $20 and Claude Pro at $20 cost the same, so pick whichever chat assistant you prefer. If you outgrow Plus, Pro starts at $100 and has no five-hour limit for now. The $200 tier gives new subscribers less usage than it used to, and Ultrafast mode is only on the $500 tier.

Pros and cons

AttributeGitHub CopilotHugging FaceOpenAI Codex
Pros
  • The cheapest paid plan in the category with unlimited autocomplete
  • Works inside the editors and the GitHub site you already use
  • Agent and code review are built into the GitHub workflow
  • Enterprise controls are mature because GitHub already had them
  • Nearly every open model is published here, usually on launch day
  • Free to browse, download and try thousands of demos
  • PRO at $9 a month is cheap for what it adds
  • Inference Providers charge the providers' prices with no markup
  • Open-source libraries and Chat UI can be run on your own servers
  • Included with every ChatGPT plan, so many people already have it
  • Cloud tasks let you start work from anywhere and come back later
  • Strong on tough, multi-file coding jobs
  • The CLI is open source and works with an API key
Cons
  • Agent quality lags Claude Code and Codex on complex tasks
  • $10 of credits a month disappears quickly once you use agents
  • Pretty pointless if your code is not on GitHub
  • Business and Enterprise prices are not published
  • Built for developers, so most of it is hard going for non-technical users
  • Free GPU time is a few minutes a day and ZeroGPU queues can be long
  • New free accounts lost free CPU Spaces in July 2026, with no clear announcement
  • Anyone can upload, so trending lists get gamed and some repositories have hidden malware
  • Users report slow support, and paid GPU Spaces can bill while waiting for hardware
  • Five-hour and weekly limits bite on Plus if you use it seriously
  • Cloud tasks use more of your allowance than local ones
  • It asks fewer questions than Claude Code before changing things
  • Model names and limits change often, which makes it hard to plan costs
  • The $200 Pro tier now gives new subscribers less usage than before
