Which plan to pickIf you are on the old $20 Pro plan and it covers what you use, stay put; switching is permanent. New customers should skip Plus unless they are happy with Grok. Premium is the realistic starting point if you want Claude, and budget for the extra usage billing on top of the $30. Large companies can ask about a custom Enterprise plan.Pro at $20 is the place to start, and it is the only sensible way to try the cloud agent. Watch your quota for the first fortnight, and use cheaper models for routine jobs before deciding whether Max or Teams is worth it.If you already have ChatGPT Plus, you have Codex: just try it. If you are choosing between this and Claude Code with no existing subscription, Plus at $20 and Claude Pro at $20 cost the same, so pick whichever chat assistant you prefer. If you outgrow Plus, Pro starts at $100 and has no five-hour limit for now. The $200 tier gives new subscribers less usage than it used to, and Ultrafast mode is only on the $500 tier.

Pros and cons

AttributeCursorDevinOpenAI Codex
Pros
  • The clearest view of what an AI is doing to your code
  • Autocomplete is still the best in the category
  • Feels familiar instantly if you have used VS Code
  • Cloud agents and code review on the mid plans
  • Truly hands-off: it works in the background and returns a pull request
  • Editor, cloud agent, terminal and code review on one subscription
  • Picks up tasks from Slack, Teams, Linear and Jira
  • Wide model choice, including cheap open models and its own SWE-2
  • New frontier models usually arrive within days of launch
  • Included with every ChatGPT plan, so many people already have it
  • Cloud tasks let you start work from anywhere and come back later
  • Strong on tough, multi-file coding jobs
  • The CLI is open source and works with an API key
Cons
  • Cheap plans only give you Grok models
  • Claude usage is billed on top of the subscription at API prices, so the real cost is hard to predict
  • OpenAI models are due to leave Cursor, which narrows the model choice
  • You now buy it bundled with Grok and X Premium, whether you want them or not
  • Agent runs are less thorough than Claude Code on big tasks
  • Success drops sharply on vague or complex tasks, so a developer still has to review everything
  • The daily and weekly quota is opaque, and good models can use a day's allowance in minutes
  • The free SWE-2 model, a big reason people subscribe, goes back to paid use after 1 November 2026
  • Users report slow support, including over unexpected on-demand charges
  • The Windsurf-to-Devin switch left gaps between the desktop and cloud versions, and some leftover clutter
  • Five-hour and weekly limits bite on Plus if you use it seriously
  • Cloud tasks use more of your allowance than local ones
  • It asks fewer questions than Claude Code before changing things
  • Model names and limits change often, which makes it hard to plan costs
  • The $200 Pro tier now gives new subscribers less usage than before
