Which plan to pickStart on Free to see if the writing suits you. Most people who stick with it move to Pro within a month; only go to Max if you hit the Pro limits every day or you're running Claude Code for hours at a time.Start free and see how often you hit the Pro search limit. If you research most days, Pro pays for itself in saved tabs. Its 4,000 bonus Computer credits are a one-off and run out after about 30 days, so don't count them as a monthly allowance. Max only makes sense if you're using the Computer agent heavily enough to burn through the credits.Premium at $19.99 is the plan to start on. Watch your points use for a fortnight; if you spend most of them on one model, switch to that company's own subscription instead.

Pros and cons

AttributeClaudePerplexityPoe
Pros
  • Writing sounds like a person and needs the least editing of any assistant
  • Handles long documents and messy briefs without losing track
  • Projects and memory mean you stop repeating the same context
  • Artifacts turn answers into real documents, slides and small apps
  • One subscription covers Claude Code as well
  • The free plan now includes memory, connectors and Artifacts
  • Sources on every answer make it the easiest assistant to fact-check
  • Short, direct answers instead of padded essays
  • Free plan is useful on its own and Comet is free
  • Lets you pick from the best models from several companies
  • Fast, and the mobile app is good
  • Hundreds of models and modalities under one subscription
  • New models usually appear on release day
  • Group chats with several models and people
  • One API key and points pool for every model
Cons
  • Free and Pro usage limits can bite on a busy day
  • No image or video generation, which ChatGPT and Gemini both have
  • The free plan doesn't include the top Opus models
  • Fewer third-party connectors and plugins than ChatGPT
  • Weak for long writing, planning or creative work
  • Computer credits are confusing: Pro's bonus credits expire after about 30 days, and Comet's browser actions and Automations spend them
  • Sources are sometimes low quality, so you still need to read them
  • Max is expensive for what most businesses need
  • Free points cut about 90% in March 2026, and the Premium allowance cut in July
  • Points now run out much faster after the October pricing change, and users report being charged for failed or cut-off answers
  • Knowledge Base file uploads for bots were shut down in May 2026, breaking some bots
  • Frequent "ran into a problem" errors mid-answer in October 2026, and a 1.9 Trustpilot score with complaints about support
