What is it?

Give Claude a video link or file and the /watch skill turns it into something Claude can read: still frames with timestamps plus a transcript. It uses the video's own captions first, then falls back to transcription. Ask about the video and Claude answers with timestamps.

The fastest setup uses a free Google AI Studio key so Gemini does the watching. With no key, or for a private video, everything runs on your computer instead. Optional local or cloud transcription (WhisperX, Groq or OpenAI) fills in speech when there are no captions.

It works in Claude Code, including Code sessions in the desktop app. It doesn't work in normal Claude chats or Cowork.

Install in Claude Code

In Claude Code run /plugin marketplace add bradautomates/claude-video, then /plugin install watch@claude-video. In the Claude desktop app, use Customize, then Plugins, Add marketplace, paste https://github.com/bradautomates/claude-video and install Watch. It needs Python 3.10 or newer, FFmpeg and yt-dlp (on a Mac: brew install python ffmpeg yt-dlp).
