Which plan to pickStart on Free to see if the writing suits you. Most people who stick with it move to Pro within a month; only go to Max if you hit the Pro limits every day or you're running Claude Code for hours at a time.Start free and see how often you hit the Pro search limit. If you research most days, Pro pays for itself in saved tabs. Its 4,000 bonus Computer credits are a one-off and run out after about 30 days, so don't count them as a monthly allowance. Max only makes sense if you're using the Computer agent heavily enough to burn through the credits. For chat, it's free. Developers should start with Coding Plan Lite and code off-peak, because usage between 2pm and 6pm Singapore time on weekdays costs more credits. Move to Pro only if you hit the weekly cap.

Pros and cons

AttributeClaudePerplexityZ.ai
Pros
  • Writing sounds like a person and needs the least editing of any assistant
  • Handles long documents and messy briefs without losing track
  • Projects and memory mean you stop repeating the same context
  • Artifacts turn answers into real documents, slides and small apps
  • One subscription covers Claude Code as well
  • The free plan now includes memory, connectors and Artifacts
  • Sources on every answer make it the easiest assistant to fact-check
  • Short, direct answers instead of padded essays
  • Free plan is useful on its own and Comet is free
  • Lets you pick from the best models from several companies
  • Fast, and the mobile app is good
  • Free chat with a top open model and a capable Agent mode
  • Coding Plan plugs GLM into Claude Code, Codex and similar tools for less than top Claude plans
  • Open models under an MIT licence for most versions
  • GLM is strong at coding and long agent tasks
Cons
  • Free and Pro usage limits can bite on a busy day
  • No image or video generation, which ChatGPT and Gemini both have
  • The free plan doesn't include the top Opus models
  • Fewer third-party connectors and plugins than ChatGPT
  • Weak for long writing, planning or creative work
  • Computer credits are confusing: Pro's bonus credits expire after about 30 days, and Comet's browser actions and Automations spend them
  • Sources are sometimes low quality, so you still need to read them
  • Max is expensive for what most businesses need
  • Slowdowns, rate limits and throttling at busy times, with a public apology from Zhipu in 2026
  • Prices and usage rules keep changing, including a 30% rise and a switch to credits
  • Zhipu is on the US trade blacklist and its hosted service filters sensitive topics
  • No international mobile app and a plainer chat experience than Qwen or Kimi
  • Users report locked accounts, slow support and dashboard token counts far higher than their tools show
