Which plan to pickStart on Free to see if the writing suits you. Most people who stick with it move to Pro within a month; only go to Max if you hit the Pro limits every day or you're running Claude Code for hours at a time.Start free and see how often you hit the Pro search limit. If you research most days, Pro pays for itself in saved tabs. Its 4,000 bonus Computer credits are a one-off and run out after about 30 days, so don't count them as a monthly allowance. Max only makes sense if you're using the Computer agent heavily enough to burn through the credits.Use Free for a day to see if it suits you. Pro is the sensible plan for private chat and images. Only go higher if you make a lot of video, and check that auto top-up is switched off in billing before you do.

Pros and cons

AttributeClaudePerplexityVenice
Pros
  • Writing sounds like a person and needs the least editing of any assistant
  • Handles long documents and messy briefs without losing track
  • Projects and memory mean you stop repeating the same context
  • Artifacts turn answers into real documents, slides and small apps
  • One subscription covers Claude Code as well
  • The free plan now includes memory, connectors and Artifacts
  • Sources on every answer make it the easiest assistant to fact-check
  • Short, direct answers instead of padded essays
  • Free plan is useful on its own and Comet is free
  • Lets you pick from the best models from several companies
  • Fast, and the mobile app is good
  • Chat history stays in your browser, not on Venice's servers
  • Answers creative and sensitive questions other assistants refuse
  • Text, images, video and a video editor in one app
  • Wide choice of open and frontier models, plus an API
Cons
  • Free and Pro usage limits can bite on a busy day
  • No image or video generation, which ChatGPT and Gemini both have
  • The free plan doesn't include the top Opus models
  • Fewer third-party connectors and plugins than ChatGPT
  • Weak for long writing, planning or creative work
  • Computer credits are confusing: Pro's bonus credits expire after about 30 days, and Comet's browser actions and Automations spend them
  • Sources are sometimes low quality, so you still need to read them
  • Max is expensive for what most businesses need
  • Privacy protections differ by mode and model, which is easy to misunderstand
  • Credits run out fast on video, and failed generations can still cost credits
  • Reports of surprise auto top-up charges and slow support on billing problems (Trustpilot 1.9 from 63 reviews)
  • Video models now block some content with face-detection errors, despite the uncensored pitch
  • Clearing your browser loses your chats, and generations are wiped when a plan lapses
